Meet Heather
Hi, my name is Heather Lawver, I’m 26, I live outside Washington, DC, and I’m a proud Lego geek!
I’ve been playing with Legos for literally as long as I can remember. Many a happy weekend was spent with my brothers, our massive Lego collection sprawled across the floor atop a bed sheet, each of us digging our way through the pile, looking for just the right piece we needed to finish our latest creations as ‘Star Wars’ played on the TV in the background.
It was an idyllic childhood to say the least and plenty of the credit certainly goes to the genius that is Lego.
Which is why I’m so pleased to have discovered a way to carry on my love for Lego by combining it with my love for fashion!
I originally developed the idea for my first Lego necklace several years ago. I sketched it out after finding a specific specialty piece one day whilst playing Legos with my nephews. The thought crossed my mind that if I combined two of those pieces in just the right way, voila, they formed a darling heart!
But it wasn’t until last year that I finally managed to make my dream a reality. Thanks to the help of all the wonderful people at the Lego Store in Tysons Corner, Virginia, I was able to track down all the pieces I need to build my latest creation. I bought all the chain and jewelry-making supplies I needed, taught myself how to work with jump rings and wrap head-pins, and got to work!
Originally I intended the necklaces to just be gifts for my sisters-in-law for birthdays and Christmas. But the more I made them, the more I loved them. And the more I played with the Legos, the more ideas sprang to mind for even more necklaces, bracelets, earrings, keychains, cuff inks, tie tacks, brooches, and on and on!
So for the second time in my life, this time as an adult, I’ve found myself thoroughly bitten by the Lego bug. But this time, I’m no longer making houses, pirate ships, or robots.
This time around, I’m making fashion!
I hope you’ll keep an eye on this site, as I’ll soon be adding an entire collection of Lego-inspired jewelry!
Big hugs and thank you’s to my friends, family, the wonderful people of the Lego enthusiast community, and last, but certainly not least, everyone at The Lego Group. Thank you for an entire lifetime of joy, creativity, and inspiration!
